Get The Lead Out – Lead Paint & Asbestos History

Get The Lead Out, LLC (GTLO) was formed in December 1993 and initially provided lead-based paint inspections and risk assessments in North Carolina and South Carolina.

As business increased, additional licenses for lead inspections were obtained from Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. The Department of Veterans Affairs selected GTLO to develop inspection procedures for the inspection of single family houses that were foreclosed by the V.A. in the Carolinas.

In 2005, GTLO was selected to perform inspection and risk assessments on HUD-financed multi-family apartments in a government program known as “the Big Buy.” The apartments assigned to GTLO were located in the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan and Florida. By the end of this phase of the program, GTLO had tested over one hundred fifty apartment developments for lead paint.

In 2005 GTLO also received a contract to inspect foreclosed houses which had been financed with FHA mortgage insurance in the Carolinas. We still provide that service.
Additional inspectors and support staff were hired to accommodate this lead inspection portion of our business.

Regional and national environmental firms began calling us requesting lead paint and asbestos inspections and in 2007 we hired an asbestos manager and an inspector. We now provide these asbestos and lead paint inspections from Texas to Florida to Maryland and up to Michigan for six due diligence national and regional firms.

In 2009 we expanded our capacity by providing Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments and Physical Needs Assessments for local real estate transactions.
